As a reader from the United States, I was captivated not only with Annette Bower’s story and characters in “Moving On – A Prairie Romance,” but with her giving me the chance to learn: to visualize Saskatchewan, a place I’ve never visited, including the real town of Regina (rej-EYE-nah) Beach, an hour’s drive northwest of the province’s capital; to hear of a Hutterite colony (a pacific religious group) on the Saskatchewan prairie; to be urged to consult my atlas and locate the mysterious-sounding Last Mountain Lake, on which Regina Beach stands.

That the story is set in a beach town makes it perfect for reading this book this or any other summer, whether or not you’re lucky enough to read it in your beach chair. I had a hard time putting the book down–I wanted to know Anna’s secrets just as much as Nick did–and I would have happily spent an entire summer’s day with nothing to do but read this book. Bower excels at erotic foreshadowing, and her turns of phrase prime the pump (sorry!) for the thrusts and parries at romance between Anna and Nick. And the best thing: there’s conflict at every turn.

If you’re reading this review in the dead of winter, enjoy the book from the warmth and comfort of your upholstered armchair and try to imagine just how cold it is on the Saskatchewan prairie and how Anna might be staying warm!
