My first race of the year

We all finished The Royal Road Race 2012

This year my husband and babytobe joined me, my son and daughter-in-law for the race. My son ran the
10 km, my daughter-in-law and babytobe ran/walked the 5 km. and my husband and I walked the 5 km.

I was slower this year than last. I was 2/2 in my gender and age group. So it was not my PB but I did finish as did the rest of my family. (I didn’t know what PB meant until I was at the finish line a couple of weeks ago as my son finished a 1/2 marathon and the audience was calling PB to the runners. My son told me that PB means personal best.)

It was a beautiful day to be out with 500 runners and walkers all running or walking the track for their own personal reasons.

The first 5 km marathon walk is on Saturday, May 12.

Last year

The day was cloudy but I was ready

My walking friend and I have been walking whenever we can. Today we walked over 4 miles. I’m too tired to do the conversion. We have completed 3.15 miles in 1 hour and 10 minutes. I will be ready to at least match my time on Saturday.

Our route is to leave our home walk to Wascana Lake and then around it and back home. Our walk is consistent but we do sprint for lights.

The spirit is willing but the body is weak

The weather is cold, snowy, rainy and windy so I walk to the mall through a maze of indoor corridors.
The spirit says walk quickly the body says not today. The spirit says keep going the fingers reach out to feel the fabric on a jacket. The spirit says starting and stopping isn’t going to help you feel the burn. The body says, I’m hot enough.
My goal is shifting rapidly from beating my previous time to hoping for a day without rain, snow or too much wind so that the body will at least show up, spirit intact.

Walking woman walked yesterday

I bundled up against a 44 k S.E. wind and put my walking beat music in my ear and walked to the local Safeway, then to the park and home again. This took me about an hour including shopping in Safeway. I was anxious to report my milage alas somewhere along the way my pedometer went to sleep and I didn’t notice it.

Today the wind was gusting at 82 k per hour and I opted to walk to the mall.
