The Royal Regina Road Race is almost here, again.

May 9, 2015, 9 a.m. CST

The Royal Road Race is on the count down. Walking woman has been participating in Walking Core and Endurance classes at the Sportplex in Regina. While in the class my time has improved. Because the weather has improved, I have been walking around Wascana Lake. Now on most days my time is also improved from last year. When I cross the finish line from my 5 km walk, I will know how I did.

There isn’t a prize for walkers. I have been under the misunderstanding that prizes were given out for the top walker in each age group, however, Ted Jaleta told me that there aren’t enough marshals on the track to make sure that walkers only walk, and not run, too. This is understandable, therefore, I am doing it for my benefit. This will be my 4th year and it is the race’s 4th year. I was there at the beginning.

So on May 9, 2015 at 9 a.m. I will be part of the crowd at the start line, but it thins out along the path, in my timed category. But it is fun to be part of 500 people who are out on a wonderful day, being healthy, raising money and being part of a community.

What has this writer been up to?

There wasn't another sign to be found

There wasn’t another sign.

This is sort of what I’ve been feeling since the beginning of 2015. A crisis of writer faith? A problem with novel number 3? A review of my life and where it will go to from here?

But also a seriousness to complete novel number 3. I’ve forgotten how to laugh.

I have so many thoughts and observations in a day that I would like to share but alas, who to share with? My blog readers when I mostly share about the business of writing?

So today I will begin just sharing thoughts.

Here is one thought that has been rattling around in the to steel an Agatha Christie Poirot’s saying, “in the little grey cells.” When Agatha was writing about “these little grey cells, it is up to them.” how much was known about the brain and its composition? I’ll have to look that up.

But it is about goals. The author Scott Adams in How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big states “that goals are for losers and systems are for winners.” Today I accepted the opportunity to be on a panel at the SWG conference and talk about marketing the author and the e book. So today I begin with a system. To promote in earnest and see how much difference it might make.

Today I booked more advertisement on The Romance Studio site as part of the St. Patrick’s Day Party and also for other advertisements. stpat2015_promo

I have changed up my few words to accompany my covers.

I had signed up prior to this day to advertise Moving On

So stay tuned for the rest of the story.

But on another note, of the Walking Woman and marathon training woman, I am in my lrcpsecond session of Walking-Endurance and Core at the Sportplex-Fieldhouse, on Monday evenings. I’m hoping to take minutes off of my 5 km walk scheduled for May 9, 2015.

Regina Royal Road Race 2014

I almost stopped to take a picture during the race but I had to keep walking.

I almost stopped to take a picture during the race but I had to keep walking.

This year was a cold spring and I didn’t practice 5 km walks very often so I relied on my muscle memory.

This is the 4th year of the Regina Royal Road Race, http://jaletapacers.com/royal-road-race/ . As happenstances happen, in 2010 I participated in the first because after I found out that it wasn’t a bicycle race and that there was a 5 km walk for different age groups, I knew I could do this. I had walked around Wascana Lake often over the years and walking from my home and around the lake is approximately 6 km.

This year a friend joined me.

We're ready and warm

We’re ready and warm

But then we went outside again.

It is about 4 degrees Celsius and a 21 km wind.

It is about 4 degrees Celsius and a 21 km wind.

I wore about five layers on and Carol wore two. We crossed the start line together but she had to hustle faster, she was cold besides she is a faster walker. We discussed early that I wouldn’t hold her back. She crossed the finish line 3 minutes 5 seconds earlier than I did, to garner second place.

I managed third place in our age group.

Muscle memory can claim the prize but the body was weak afterwards.

“The Royal Road Race is a family event that promotes wellness and the sport of running. The race is designed for everyone from walkers to competitive runners. The race distances are 10 km Timex series, 5 km and 1km Mini Mountie Run. The course is fast and flat with a 5 km loop run twice for the 10 km distance. The proceeds raised from this race go toward local charities.” (from the web page)

Chili for Children and the United Way were the charities who benefited from the proceeds this year.

Ted Jaleta the motivator behind this event will be receiving an honourable degree from the University of Regina later this year. It is well deserved. Please check out his web page. http://tedjaleta.com/index

Will I be in the race next year? I hope so. This year has been my best time, maybe next year it will be better. I now understand that this is something I do for me, not to win a medal but to participate.

I’m Writing, I’m Writing and I’m so excited

Celebrating that I'm writing.

Celebrating that I’m writing.

Life has found a way to help me push my writing to the back burner and novel number 3 is slower than I thought it would be. In November, 2013 I started the 90 day program with The Real Age Workout book. http://www.amazon.com/RealAge-Workout-Michael-Roizen-M-D-ebook/dp/B000W964DQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391269075&sr=8-1&keywords=The+real+Age+Workout . In order to do the program I changed my life around. I had to as we do with infants, turn my days and nights around. I used to write into the night. I’d start my blog around 10 pm. But exercise was losing out. I have had this book on my shelf for a couple of years and decided to follow the program. I made it to 10 days into phase three which would be 70 days of the 90. We went away on our 6,000 km road trip and I didn’t follow the program.
I started back as of January 25, 2014 therefore, this particular program will end on Feb 13, 2014.
While away, I read, How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, by Scott Adams. He is the creator of the Dilbert Cartoon as well as other books etc. http://www.amazon.com/How-Fail-Almost-Everything-Still-ebook/dp/B00COOFBA4/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1391268509&sr=1-1&keywords=how+to+fail+at+almost+everything+and+still+win+big . He creates first thing in the morning and then exercises. I tried this yesterday and today. It works wonderfully.
Sitting at my computer in my PJ and housecoat, the mind seems ready to free associate and create. I know I can’t do this everyday because of course appointments have to be kept. But when I can, I want to continue.
Now to make sure the exercise happens, off to the gym I go, because I am signed up again for the Royal Regina Road Race again this year. http://jaletapacers.com/royal-road-race
