Elizabeth McGill,http://www.lakewinnipegwritersgroup.com/elizabeth.html a writer and a photographer with a keen eye took this photograph in a Regina Beach, SK where we both once lived. When the Lake Winnipeg Writers’ Group called for possible cover pictures, Elizabeth’s was chosen.
Elizabeth moved on to Brandon, MB and I moved to Regina, SK but we had friendship and writing in common. She passed on a link for the Lake Winnipeg Writers’ Group Contest in 2013, because in 2012 she had won a fiction prize.
In 2013 I entered and received honourable mention for my short story, Many Tongues in adult fiction. This year I entered again and my commentary, Waiting placed third in adult commentary.
Elizabeth’s short story Old Scars was also published in this edition of Voices. We were excited to read at the launch at McNally Robinson Booksellers in Winnipeg.
Two friends joined me from Regina, SK and we drove to Brandon, MB and picked up Elizabeth.
Approximately an hour outside Winnipeg, we ran into a rain and hail storm. We pulled over to the shoulder as many other drivers did.
Because the list of readers was long Elizabeth and I practiced to read approximately five minutes each. However upon arrival at McNally Robinsons Booksellers, we were informed that three minutes would be appropriate. Each of us mentally did a quick reassessment.
We visited with readers and friends.
Then four friends got back into the car and drove the 573 km/356 miles from Winnipeg, MB to Regina, SK with a stop off in Brandon, MB.
I want to thank all of my friends who took time out of their day to come to the launch of Voices and to support me in this writing career.
